Drew Barrymore quit hosting the MTV Movie and TV Awards.

Regrettably, Drew Barrymore will not be gracing us with her presence as host for the upcoming MTV Movie and TV Awards.
The Golden Globe-winning actor and daytime talk show host announced on Thursday that she was backing out of the show, in a move of solidarity with the writers strike.
“I understand the writer’s plight, and to sincerely honor their cause, I have decided to shift gears and withdraw from hosting the MTV Movie & TV Awards live as a mark of support for the strike,” Drew declared in a statement provided to Entertainment Tonight.
Movies and television have birthed everything that we cherish and revere about them. Until a resolution is found, I opt to wait with bated breath. Nonetheless, I will indulge in the comfort of my home and I invite you to do the same while keeping an eye on the latest developments.
With an air of sophistication and a keen eye for fashion, Drew expressed gratitude towards MTV for the chance, while eagerly anticipating her return in 2024. “I simply can’t wait to be a part of this incredible event next year, where we can truly revel in the exceptional work MTV has achieved. Their one-of-a-kind show gives fans the power to vote for their favorite stars and is truly a testament to inclusivity.”
According to Variety, there won’t be a successor for Drew. Fear not, as the former host may make appearances due to pre-recorded segments.
The report also said there won’t be a red carpet at the awards this year — but it’s unclear who’s even going anyway, as presenters, nominees, and guests might choose not to appear due to the strike.
