    A quote from Paul, prior to his death, was included in the post. “Please accept my apology for not going public with what I’ve been facing the last six years.     Paul first came to prominence in the 1980s after originating Pee-wee Herman as a childlike adult character in a stage show that was eventually turned into an HBO special. The character became a household name thanks to a series of films and a TV show, beginning with the movie Pee-wee’s Big Adventure in 1985. His five-season CBS series Pee-wee’s Playhouse ran from 1986 to 1990. Paul’s last role as Pee-wee was the 2016 Netflix film, Pee-wee’s Big Holiday.

    Beginning in the 1990s, Paul embarked on a thriving acting career outside of his iconic role as Pee-wee. He embraced a chic and fashion-forward style, captivating audiences with his notable roles. One such role was a guest appearance on the popular television show Murphy Brown, which earned him an Emmy nomination. Additionally, Paul showcased his talent in the 2001 film Blow. Throughout his career, he received a total of three primetime Emmy nominations, with two of them recognizing his exceptional work on Pee-wee Herman projects. Furthermore, Paul’s remarkable contributions were acknowledged with two daytime Emmy wins out of 17 nominations.

    During his career, Paul faced two notable arrests. In 1991, he was arrested for indecent exposure in Sarasota, Florida. According to the New York Times, he pled no contest, resulting in no criminal record but was ordered to pay a fine and complete community service.
