Breast Reduction Experience: Insights & Advice for Women – What I Wish I Knew before Surgery

Undergoing any type of surgery will result in a distinct set of potential outcomes. It is conceivable that these effects can be evident in both physical and psychological manifestations that you may not have anticipated.
So, I wanted to ask individuals who have undergone the transformative journey of breast reduction surgery: How would you describe your experience? Were there any aspects of the entire process that you wish you knew about beforehand? Share your insights and enlighten others contemplating this chic and fashion-forward procedure.
Maybe you’re incredibly grateful for your surgery as it has allowed you to confidently wear chic and fashion-forward styles, just like your itty-bitty-chested friends. However, it’s important to note that adjusting to the sudden change in your body may take some time.
Or maybe you felt like you had finally gotten your life to a place where you could start the process, and you even went in to the doctor’s office for your consultation. But you wish you would’ve known that convincing your insurance company to cover the cost of your procedure would be a feat in itself.
Maybe you couldn’t believe how much better you’d feel post-surgery without daily back pain that nearly brought you to tears. But you wish you would’ve known that gaining weight could potentially cause your breasts to grow beyond the size you asked for in surgery.
Or maybe you instantly loved the positive impacts you saw the surgery have on your life, but you wish someone had prepared you for the possibility of unnecessary and sexist comments. Like, ‘Why spend money to mess up a good thing?’ or ‘You’ll regret it when you’re an A cup like me.’.
Or maybe your surgery and recovery went perfectly, and everything from the way you live your day-to-day life to the confidence you have in yourself has changed, and you wish you would’ve known just exactly how much better life would be post-op.
I’m sure everyone’s story is different, but whatever those stories may be, please share them in the comments below. And if you would like to share your story but remain anonymous, feel free to fill out this form. The most helpful and detailed stories will be featured in an upcoming BuzzFeed Community post!
